Why study Media, Culture and Communication studies?
The study of media, culture and communication is the exploration of the relationship between media, culture and society. In a media-saturated culture, developing a critical awareness of media is crucial to our understanding of contemporary society.
Programme Objective
- Familiarise students with a range of theoretical and methodological approaches to the multidisciplinary field of media, cultural and communication studies
- Provide students with the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in specific subject areas within this field, whilst maintaining breadth of study across it
- Develop students’ ability to undertake independent research in cultural studies and/or language studies
- Develop students’ knowledge and skills in aspects of discourse analysis
- Introduce students to a range of learning methods and methodological practices appropriate to the different subject areas
- Develop in students a high level of communication skills in the presentation of critical and creative ideas
- Offer students the opportunity to engage in practice to a specialist level in up to one area of media production/practice

Entry Requirements
All applicants must be of age 17 and above, and must possess one of the following entrance requirement:
For Year 1 entry
- International Foundation Diploma in Mass Communications awarded by MDIS OR
- International Foundation Diploma in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Art OR
- At least two (2) GCE ‘A’ Levels, or equivalent OR
- Relevant qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs) or recognised Higher Education providers in a media-and-communications-related discipline, (which are deemed by the University to be suitable as pathway programmes for entry onto the Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education.
For Year 2 entry
- Higher Diploma in Mass Communications awarded by MDIS OR
- Relevant diploma level qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs) or recognised Higher Education providers in a media-and-communications-related discipline, (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 12 years of formal education OR
- Polytechnic diplomas which have covered the content and learning outcomes of Year 1
For Year 3 entry
- Relevant polytechnic diplomas in a media-and-communications-related discipline, (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Year 1 AND Year 2 of the University course) with a pass grade OR
- Relevant overseas polytechnic diplomas in a media-and-communications-related discipline, (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Year 1 AND Year 2 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education OR
- Higher National Diploma (HND) qualifications in media-and-communications-related discipline related disciplines OR
