Singapore, 4 January 2024 – After two virtual Open Houses, The Management Development Institute of Singapore’s (MDIS) Open House returns with a showcase of victories, underpinning the importance of hard work in success. Themed ‘Flight To Success’ the one-day event takes place Saturday, 13 January, from 11am – 6pm, packed with activities to inspire learners to re-consider their plans for academic growth. Prospective students can visit the Stirling Road campus and take part in a variety of high intensity activities including masterclasses and fireside chats, workshops, a digital treasure hunt, mascot appearance and sure-win prizes. The Open House will culminate with a sharing session on the relationship between Engineering and Entrepreneurship, followed by two MDIS Alumni from the School of Life Sciences who have gone on to achieve remarkable success.
Fireside Chats and MasterClasses
At the Flight To Success Open House, prospective students will get to partake all-day fireside chats and MasterClasses at SAMTAS Hall, curated to inform and inspire their take off to success. A total of five discussion sessions from MDIS’ academic schools – Life Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Health & Nursing, Fashion Design – will share how innovative thinking, hard work and highly practical skills lead to successful outcomes. The sessions are crucial to inspiring prospective students, while discussing practical approaches to achieving success beyond academics.
One of the key highlights of the all-day discussion sessions is the sharing by MDIS Alumni Tania Jim and Upuddu Abhishek from the School of Life Sciences. Under the tutelage of the faculty’s dedicated academic staff, Tania is presently pursuing her PhD at the National University of Singapore, while Upuddu has gone on to live his dreams of reading Medicine. Since the faculty’s inception, the School of Life Sciences has gone on to produce some 2,903 graduates, many of whom have achieved First- and Second-Class Honours degrees.
Prospective students keen on a future career in business and entrepreneurship can look forward to hearing from both the School of Engineering & Technology and School of Fashion Design. The School of Engineering & Technology will be presenting a dialogue on ‘The Modern Engineer, The Modern Businessman’ where Singapore entrepreneur Ray Wong and IEEE Chairman Anthony Yee will discuss how an engineering education equips individuals with an array of highly transferrable skills for the commercial world. In ‘Sustainable Fashion and Eco-friendly Styles’, fashion entrepreneur Lee Hung Bin will share the 5Ws, 1H of starting a sustainable e-commerce store retailing fast fashion and advice on getting started. Lee, a fashion design graduate, is the founder of homegrown clothing brand From There On (formerly Runway Bandits), which designs and markets apparel made from for the weather conscious. Lee is also the founder of Good Luck Bunch, a Hypebeast retailer for streetwear lovers.
All-day Workshops and Course Preview Talks
To give prospective students a better understanding of the diploma and degree programmes offered, all-day workshops and course preview sessions are available. Prospective students who wish to find out more about alternative pathways to success through MDIS can request to speak with a Course Counsellor for a 1:1 consultation.
The Flight To Success Open House coincides with the anticipated release of the 2023 Singapore-Cambridge GCE “O” Level results. Prospective students can look forward to signing up with the Institute of Higher Learning to plan their take off to future success. With close to 23,000 secondary school graduates seeking success, selecting an Institute of Higher Learning with a strong support network, dedicated Academic Faculty, exposure to international cultures through interactions with foreign students and exchange programmes, as well as a rigorous curriculum is crucial.
Prospective students who have recently completed the Singapore-Cambridge GCE “A” Level examination in 2023 are also welcomed.
MDIS Mighty Mascot Appearance, Food, Fun and Games
In line with the inspiring atmosphere, prospective students will get countless opportunities to meet and greet MDIS’ mascot, Mighty, partake in plenty of games alongside carnival food, games and beverages. A physical-and-social on campus Mascot hunt will be rolled out alongside food and games.
