Programme Objectives 

This Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychological and Behavioural Science programme will provide students with in-depth understanding of the human mind and behaviour. Alongside the study of the core areas of psychology (cognitive, biological, social and developmental psychology; individual differences; conceptual and historical issues in psychology; research methods) students will explore applied areas of psychology such as Forensic and Health. In addition to this, it provides students opportunities to develop academic and transferable skills preparing them for life after graduation and academic challenges.

The programme is designed to extend students’ knowledge of psychology and related fields and further develop their capabilities and skills to apply critical thinking to complex, real-world problems. Throughout the programme students are exposed to a variety of research methodologies and statistical techniques that enhances their awareness of the link between theory and research, fosters critical evaluation and enables them to conduct independent, rigorous and ethical research. It endeavours to provide students with an understanding of real-life applications of theory and, by utilising a variety of assessment procedures as well as providing graduates with a range of transferable skills. Ultimately, through the depth and breadth of its curriculum, the programme aims to interest, involve and empower its diverse cohort of students and to enable them to reach their full potential.

Graduation

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychological and Behavioural Science from the University of Roehampton UK. The degree will be the same as that awarded to the full-time students at the University main campus in the UK.

Industry Collaboration

The Memorandum of Understanding (2016), signed between the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS) and the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), augments a strong working relationship between the Society and the MDIS School of Psychology. This collaborative arrangement allows for MDIS students who are majoring in psychology to become members of the SPS, and to enjoy the following benefits:

  • Provide a supportive and enriching learning environment that empowers each student in a diverse student body to develop their intellectual, personal and employment skills through collaborative and independent learning experiences
  • Enable a scientific understanding of mind, brain, behaviour and experience, and the complex interactions between these
  • Develop an understanding of the role of empirical evidence in the creation and constraint of theory, and also in how theory guides the collection and interpretation of empirical data.
  • Develop knowledge leading to an ability to appreciate and critically evaluate theory, research findings and applications
  • Develop psychological literacy, including an understanding of how experience and behaviour can be influenced by contextual and interpersonal factors
  • Equip students with a broad range of transferable skills that will be useful to them in gaining employment after graduation and lay the foundations for lifelong learning
  • Develop in partnership with students by enabling them to contribute to the academic excellence of the programme through a variety of evaluation methods and opportunities.
  • Enable students to develop a critical understanding of multiple psychological perspectives including an appreciation of the real-life application of theory to a range of experience and behaviour including psychological disorders

Year 1 Entry:

  • International Foundation Diploma in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Art awarded by MDIS OR
  • International Foundation Diploma in Psychology awarded by MDIS OR
  • At least 2 GCE A level subjects / BTEC National Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent qualification) OR
  • Non-psychology related diplomas from local polytechnics OR
  • Other PEI's foundation qualifications with entry requirement of 10 years of formal education

Year 3 Entry:

  • Relevant polytechnic diploma in Psychology (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4/Year 1 and Level 5/Year 2 of the University Course) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education ^ OR
  • Relevant Private Education Institutes (PEIs) or overseas qualifications (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4/Year 1 and Level 5/Year 2 of the University Course) with an entry requirement of 12 years of formal education* ^

^ Applicants may be required to undertake bridging modules to fulfil the required prerequisite knowledge and cope with the rigours of the course.
