Programme Objectives
The Diploma in Fashion Jewellery and Promotion programme encourages creativity and critical thinking on the part of students, and equips them with the skill necessary to create commercially viable and ecologically-friendly jewellery – through conceptualisation, innovation, originality, technical skills, and professionalism at all levels
The programme objectives are:
- Gain proficiency in technical drawings / three-dimensional design as well as hone drawing skills through a range of traditional and non-traditional methods and materials
- Understand the basics of pattern, contrast, and texture within design using colour
- Be familiar with basic 2D and 3D design skills: drafting and detailing
- Gain proficiency in using software applications extensively used in design industry
- Acquire the ability to construct jewellery pieces leveraging concepts of form, structure, volume, color, texture, contrast, scale, and dimension
- Explore the relationships between historical, cultural, social, and economic factors and how these have influenced modern design practices
Methods of Assessment
All assessments are based on 100% coursework. Students are expected to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and skills in the form of verbal and visual presentations, written essays, reports, in-class group work, individual project work, in-class research project, practical and MCQ assessment.
Why MDIS
Founded in 1956, the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) is one of Singapore’s oldest not-for-profit professional institutes for lifelong learning. MDIS has two main subsidiaries: Management Development Institute of Singapore Pte Ltd which oversees its Singapore academic operations, and MDIS International Pte Ltd which focuses on MDIS’ globalisation strategy.

Upon successful completion of this programme, students will progress to the Advanced Diploma in Fashion Jewellery and Promotion.

Entry Requirements
All applicants must be of age 18 and above, and must obtain one of the following requirements:
1 GCE 'A' level pass
OR
12 years of formal education (for international or foreign-system applicants)
OR
Diploma from a private educational institution or overseas polytechnic with entry requriements of 10 years of formal education
OR
Mature candidates who are 30 years old and above with at least 8 years relevant work experience
English Language Requirements
Applicants are required to possess one of the following:
C6 pass in English at GCE ‘O’ level
OR
IETLS score of 5.5 OR — TOEFL score of 500PBT, 173, CBT, 61 IBT
OR
MDIS Online English Placement Test pass
OR
MDIS English Entrance Test pass
OR
WSS WPL 5 or equivalent English Assessment - Equivalent English qualification OR - Clear indication or letter from institution that medium of instruction for highest qualification was English (for institutions in non-English-speaking countries)
